Gavin got a late Christmas present on New Year's Day-ish (Big shout out "Thank you" to Holly and Michael). He couldn't decide which he liked better: the new Gav-sized piano, or the big box it came in! In the video, you can see how he splits his time between both. It went on for quite some time and I thought it was pretty funny.

Gavin built his first bear! He enjoyed picking out his bear, picking out the heart for the bear, and the fun stopped there. He DID NOT enjoy the noise the machine made that stuffs the bears. I guess he was still too young. He didn't need clothes for his bear, as we still had the outfits Gavin wore for Halloween last year. Here is a picture of my little bundle last October, and of Gavin with his bear wearing the outfit from last October.

Wishing a very Merry Christmas to family and friends!
It’s a time for reflection, as 2008 ends.

We’ve had a great year, full of excitement and fun
Gavin is growing up fast, even if he’s only one!

This time last year, he wore a wee Santa suit,
But now he’s walking, climbing stairs, and singing to boot!

He has learned to sleep in his crib all alone
And this Spring his obsession was buttons on the phone.

Oh, what a shock when Grammy answered the door
With Gavin following behind, army crawling on the floor

She peaked her head out, blinded by a light, she cried “oh!’
Who was the visitor? Two officers of the Five-O.

Gavin, it seems, had called 911.
I guess to report that he was having so much fun!

His punishment, no more phone, may seem outlandish,
But the remote was next to go when the TV only knew Spanish.

The keychain privilege also lost, it broke his heart
But he kept pushing the buttons that made my car start.

From restaurants, church, or sitting at home
My car would be idling in the driveway all alone.

Oh, yes, Gavin’s a handful, but he couldn’t be cuter,
Even when he’s constantly turning off the computer.

That bright blue light is too much to ignore
He pushes the button and poof! My email draft is no more.

Gavin surely does keep me on my toes
Or on the ground, in pain, after he bites HARD on my nose.

But at the end of the day, my heart he does keep.
When I see that sweet angel finally asleep!

14 month old Gavin has found his groove and is on the move! Life has gotten a lot more exciting now that Gavin is walking...

Gavin is growing up so fast!

Gavin is almost fourteen months old now and is growing up so fast!! He is finally feeding himself Cheerios. He has been feeding himself larger items for a few months now, but he has mastered the Cheerios and this has seriously increased his independence. He is such a sweet boy and is learning a lot. We have been working on "if you're happy and you know it clap your hands" for a long time and he has finally caught on to clapping his hands in the right part. He is also starting to take his first steps. The other night, he walked three steps before he sat down and started clapping for himself! Definitely cool that he is learning walking along with clapping. I wish I had a video of it! But of course, whenever I bring out the camera, he stops and stares at it...
In other news, Gavin is still wearing his nine month old size clothes, despite the fact that I feed him a lot of food. He is taking naps in his bed now, so I haven't had to leave the house lately (I used to have to coax him to sleep on a car ride). He loves going up stairs and down stairs. So, now that he loves to go in both directions each time he sees the stairs, it takes us 10-15 minutes to change floors.
He has eight teeth already and has been drooling A LOT lately so I'm awaiting the ninth tooth. He is almost always smiling and sings along to any music he hears, be it on the radio, at church, or when I'm singing. Between that and his piano playing, look out!

Gavin's First Birthday!!!

Gavin turns ONE today! He is such a happy little boy! He nearly fell asleep in his cake, but was too gentlemanly to get messy. He poked a couple of holes in the cake and daintily ate some bites of it off of my fork. He LOVED that everyone kept singing "Happy Birthday" to him and enjoyed pulling tissue paper out of gift bags. He weighs 19.3 pounds and is 28 inches tall.

Today Gavin is six months of age. Funny how much he's grown and yet, I haven't aged a day!! He can now sit up by himself, which was discovered quite accidentally yesterday when his cousins begged to play yet another round of "watch how Gavin sits for one second and then wobbles over to the side".

Gavin was weighed and measured today as he nears six months. He weighed in at 16 lbs 13 oz and measured 27 inches long. So, contrary to RH's opinion that Gavin is a "fat little fart", he is actually average weight and above average height for his age. No more preemie status for Gavin!

The doctor said he is all caught up for his age!! I just love it when he giggles and am always trying new ways to get him to do it!

Gavin spent the first three weeks of his life in the NICU being looked after by doctors and nurses. Grammy thought it would be funny for Gavin to surprise the doctor in scrubs one morning at his daily doctor visit. She found tiny scrubs at Build-a-Bear and Mama told the doctor that he'd been in the hospital so long he managed to complete medical school. The doctor surprised us all by letting Gavin go home that very day!

Birth Day

On Sunday September 16, 2007, Gavin Hilton Gutierrez made his debut into the world. Born 7 weeks premature, the first several people I shared the news with thought that I was making a prank call and didn't believe that he was actually born.

He was a surprise to me too, and if Kristin and Mackinlay hadn't actually dragged me to the hospital, he might have been born in my bathtub. I knew my water had broken in primary that morning, but I was still in denial. I called Shana to say I was having "cramps" and she corrected me by saying I was having "contractions". At the hospital, things progressed swiftly. I was transported by ambulance to LDS Hospital so they could take care of my little premie. I nearly gave birth in the ambulance and my poor little guy had a bit of a conehead for the first few weeks from me holding him in. Finally the nice doctor at LDS Hospital let me push and that sweet boy came into the world, screaming his little head off. The doctors called him "feisty" and insisted he would outlive them. He weighed 4 pounds 15 ounces and measured 18" long and surprised us with a mess of auburn hair.
